ITINERARY

Lisbon – Sintra – Setúbal – Óbidos – Fátima – Porto – Douro Valley – Braga – Guimarães

This tour combines culture, gastronomy and, of course, plenty of wine. We will visit wineries, take a stroll through vineyards and taste different types of wine. Portugal has a strong wine industry and the discovery of its different wines and the regions where they are produced can be an excellent excuse to discover the beautiful scenery, heritage and secrets of Portuguese culture.

 

DAY 1 LISBON ( — / — / — )

Upon arrival, we will meet you at the airport to assist and transfer you to your hotel. The rest of the day is free for you to explore the city at leisure. Overnight stay in Lisbon at the 4 Seasons.

 

DAY 2 LISBON • SINTRA • LISBON ( B / — / — )

Sintra is 30 km from Lisbon and it offers a little taste of paradise. We will visit the stunning, out-of-a-fairy-tale palace, the Pena Palace and will visit the famous bakery Piriquita to try its popular “queijada”.
Back in Lisbon, visit to the 16th-century Jerónimo’s Monastery (UNESCO); the Monument to the Discoveries, and the impressive Belém Tower. Visit to the old patisserie that has managed to hold on to the secret recipe of Portugal’s finest pastry for over 100 years and enjoy a demonstration and tasting of the famous “pastéis de Belém”. Visit to the St. George Castle, considered the most emblematic monument of Lisbon.

 

DAY 3 LISBON • SETÚBAL ( B / — / — )

Visit to the Adega da Bacalhoa winery and finish the visit with a tasting session of a great selection of wine.
In the afternoon we visit José Maria da Fonseca, one of Portugal’s largest and most prestigious wine companies. Established in 1834 and still owned by the same family, the winery is located in the charming village of Azeitão. We will finish the visit with a tasting of Moscatel de Setúbal.
Afterwards we will have some free time in the centre of Setúbal.
At the end of the tour, visit to the view point of Cristo-Rei to see the view of Lisbon from a different angle.

 

DAY 4 LISBON • ÓBIDOS • FÁTIMA • PORTO ( B / — / — )

Your day on Portugal’s “Silver Coast” begins in the medieval walled town of Óbidos village – surrounded by medieval walls and by its whitewashed houses. Here we will taste the local drink Ginja, a Portuguese liqueur made by infusing ginja berries. This is the second most popular alcoholic drink in Portugal after Port wine. This tour also features the imposing sanctuary of Fátima, a centre of Catholic faith and destination for pilgrims from across the world. Overnight in Porto at the Yeatman hotel.

 

DAY 5 PORTO ( B / — / — )

Elected Best European Destination 2012 by the European citizens, Porto is history, architecture, culture, gastronomy, trade, encounters and discoveries. We will do a walking tour of the city to take it all in. Itinerary: Torre dos Clérigos, Livraria Lello e Irmão, Avenida dos Aliados, Estação de S. Bento, Ponte Luís I, Sé Catedral, Bairro da Sé and Ribeira. In the afternoon we will visit the Port Wine Cellars to do a Port Wine tasting and attend a Fado show. Overnight in Porto at the Yeatman hotel.

 

DAY 6 VALE DO DOURO ( B / L / — )

Drive through Port wine region, the oldest wine region of the world and a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. This is an unforgettable journey through the beautiful landscapes of the scenic mountains and the river Douro. Discover the history of the Douro region and taste the Port wine produced here as we visit some of its vineyards and wineries. Overnight in Douro at Six Senses Hotel.

 

DAY 7 BRAGA & GUIMARÃES ( B / — / — )

Guided tour of the city of Braga known as the “Portuguese Rome” for its concentration of religious architecture and home of the oldest Cathedral in the country. Founded in Roman times with the name of Bracara Augusta, this city is over 2000 years old. In the afternoon we visit Guimarães, a historic town exceptionally well preserved and an authentic example of the evolution of a medieval settlement into a modern town. (Optional: visit the museums and monuments).Overnight in Porto at the Yeatman hotel.

 

DAY 8 END OF TRIP ( B / — / — )

Transfer to Porto airport in the morning.
